In a relentless effort, the "Shaldag" Special Forces Unit, operating under the Southern Command, has been actively engaged in uncovering and neutralizing Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza City. Since the commencement of the war, the unit has discovered approximately 1500 tunnel shafts and underground passages, revealing the extensive network utilized by Hamas for clandestine activities.

The complex subterranean combat involves locating and dismantling terrorist command centers and combat facilities hidden within the tunnels. Many of these tunnels were found beneath civilian structures such as schools, hospitals, mosques, UN facilities, and other civilian institutions, exposing Hamas' use of the civilian population as human shields.
