Curiosity got the better of this young man after he decided to lick a frozen lamppost in northern China on a cold winter's day.

Footage shows the man unable to remove himself from the pole, as the filmer moves closer it's revealed that his tongue is stuck.

Fortunately, someone called the police for him and officers used a jug of 40-degree Celsius water from a nearby supermarket. With great care, the police poured the warm water onto the young man's tongue, successfully freeing it from the lamppost.

The young man explained that he had heard about stories like tongues getting stuck to iron bars in the cold northeastern weather and, out of curiosity, he decided to test it himself.

The video was filmed on December 15 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, and provided with permission from local media.
