A huge cobra sparked panic when it slithered through a restaurant in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the deadly reptile moving across tables and chairs while a customer scrolled through his phone in Rayong, Thailand.

Before it could get near the man, he noticed it and fled to safety to call for help.

However, when he returned, the animal had already disappeared. No one was hurt from the incident and the snake was also unharmed.

Following the brush with death, the diner reflected on the close encounter with one of the world's deadliest snakes.

'The snake was so near to me, it could have killed me if it had bitten me,' he said.

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
