Hundreds of crabs were seen migrating together through the sea in China.

Footage shows the mass of crustaceans paddling alongside each other with their legs and pinchers in Hebei province on August 4.

Onlooker Zhu Yaling said: ‘That happened a day before an earthquake on August 5 in Hebei, Shandong, and Tianjin. Was that just a coincidence?

Many crab species migrate to specific locations to mate and lay their eggs. Some crabs migrate to escape unfavourable environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures or low oxygen levels.

Crabs may also migrate to find suitable habitats for moulting, the process of shedding their exoskeleton as they grow.
