Two Westchester County Police officers, Niall Nerney and Christopher Duffy, are set to be nominated for a lifesaving award after their fearless actions saved a fleeing suspect from a burning car on the Saw Mill River Parkway. The suspect, who had fled from an attempted traffic stop, lost control in Chappaqua, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side and burst into flames.

Officers Nerney and Duffy, with commendable bravery, used a portable fire extinguisher to control the fire and then breached the damaged windshield to reach the unconscious suspect. They administered first aid, reviving the injured man, and successfully pulled him from the vehicle just as flames spread. Commissioner Terrance Raynor praised their decisive, skillful, and courageous actions, emphasizing their commitment to saving lives even in the face of danger.

The incident, which unfolded on Friday, Dec. 1, involved a high-speed chase initiated when the suspect's Chevy Malibu sideswiped another car on the Saw Mill River Parkway. Despite the suspect's reckless behavior, the officers put themselves at risk to ensure a swift and daring rescue.
