US Marines and Japan Air Defense Force Forge Air Dominance in Joint Operations in Miyazaki, Japan

U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18D Hornet aircraft from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 232 and F-15J Eagle aircraft from the 305th Tactical Fighter Squadron recently conducted flight operations during the Nyutabaru Aviation Training Relocation (ATR) at Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) Nyutabaru Air Base on December 18, 2023.
The ATR program facilitates training for U.S. aviation units in the Indo-Pacific, including VMFA-232 and Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 12, allowing them to train away from their home stations to minimize local noise impacts. This initiative aims to enhance operational readiness and interoperability.
During this year's ATR program at Nyutabaru Air Base, MAG-12 forces collaborated with the JASDF's 305th Tactical Fighter Squadron. The joint training focused on refining tactics, strengthening operational readiness, and fostering a higher level of interoperability through realistic and safe exercises.
