In a dramatic incident in Deltona, an armed shoplifting suspect, Dempsey Hadley, initiated a standoff with deputies after fleeing from a Wawa store where he stole cigarettes. The suspect, armed and dangerous, fired at deputies, grazing one and striking a sergeant's ballistic shield. The situation escalated as Hadley, defying commands, set fires in his vehicle, leading to a prolonged standoff.

Deputies, deploying a range of resources, including negotiators, SWAT, and drones, successfully evacuated Hadley's son and a dog from his residence. Despite the deployment of the VSO Bearcat and strategic repositioning, Hadley resisted surrender, culminating in a fiery scene as flames engulfed his home.

SWAT, utilizing specialized vehicles, dismantled a balcony to safely apprehend Hadley, who was then treated for injuries on-site before transport to a local hospital. Charges await Hadley, pending medical clearance, with a subsequent transfer to the Volusia County Branch Jail."
