Thais celebrated the birthday of a 19th century prince in Chumphon province, southern Thailand, on December 19.

Footage shows the festivities for Abhakara Kiartivongse, the Crown Prince of Chumphon, who studied at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK before returning to Siam and playing a role in the formation of the country's navy in 1900.

Abhakara was given the title of Commander in Chief, Admiral and Father of the Siamese Navy before he died aged 42 in 1923. His birthday is celebrated by keen royalists and the navy each year, with special importance given to Abhakara because he was a son of the widely revered King Rama V.
