STORYLINE:
Construction workers have been stepping up efforts to build prefabricated houses in northwest China's Gansu Province so that residents impacted by a recent 6.2-magnitude earthquake can move from tents to warmer structures for the winter.
According to the housing and urban-rural development bureau of the Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, a total of 12,000 prefab houses will be built by Wednesday.
The massive earthquake jolted parts of Gansu Monday last week.
In Bonan-Dongxiang-Salar Autonomous County of Jishishan in Linxia, 117 have been killed and 781 injured, and almost 15,000 houses have been toppled.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): NI PENGZHOU, Staff, Gansu Third Construction Group Co., Ltd.
"We're constructing the second batch of the prefab houses. We now have 80 workers here."
By 9 p.m. Saturday, more than 3,500 had already been completed.
