"My name is Paolo. I'm from Italy. The first time I came to China was exactly in 1994. My responsibility from the first day was to install and start up ceramic machinery all over China. After those 6 years, they assigned me to other countries. In 2004, I was lucky to be requested to come here, and live permanently in China and in Foshan, and having a much more stable, much more comfortable life.

My company is involved in the ceramic machinery. We have been in China since 1987. Our main product is a hydraulic press.

My job is involved in this kind of product and the service related to the products. You will see a lot of foreign people.

This is the main workshop of SACMI. As you see, there are some finished products here. This is a part of the product. The line includes the assembling from the first step to the last step of packing. These are ready for delivery.

Foshan of course is home for ceramic in China. The brand of Foshan is everywhere, and we see people from anywhere, anywhere from America, Africa, Asia of course, Europe as well, because a lot of people come here to see what China is producing in terms of innovation. So not only us, but also other companies which are based here -- everyone is coming here to learn and to announce their ability to see what's the future, because China is leading the future also in ceramic businesses.

It was the image in 1994. It was impressive to see how many people commuted with bicycles from place A to B. The huge change that I saw in the country in terms of transportation, the shift from bicycle, first step was motorbike, and then from motorbikes, cars, a lot of cars. Recently there is a shift to electric vehicles. China has developed hugely in the last few decades and Foshan is part of this fast, huge development. The business atmosphere in China, and Foshan is very competitive, very fast.

Over the past 10 years, I have my own house and family in this city. I have no doubt that Foshan is my home. The first home. I already applied for the green card to be part of China, having a document to certify your willingness to be here for a long term. I am a foreigner, but I don't want to be a guest. I want to feel as much as I can be part of. It is important to me. I want to be not just a guest."
