Fear gripped residents of the Athkona village in northern India's Uttar Pradesh after a tiger strayed into the area.

This incident took place in Atkona village near the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve in the eponymous district on December 25.

Visuals showed officials of the forest department trying to capture the tiger in the village. The wild animal was tranquilised by the officials but it didn't let itself be captured easily. The big cat looked weak and kept tumbling down probably as a result of being tranquilised but retorted when the forest officials put a blanket over its body. The tiger, after a lot of effort, was eventually captured by the forest department, much to the relief of the villagers.

As per a report, the adult tigress was injured and had climbed onto a wall in the village and soon the information was given to the forest department who jumped to action on December 26. They attempted to catch the tiger and eventually succeeded in doing so, after 10 hours of hard work. The big cat's condition was examined by Dr Daksh Gangwar, the veterinarian at the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve.
