In recent years, southwest China's Yunnan Province has been stepping up efforts to advance its green energy sector, contributing to China's green development.
Besides its abundant hydropower resources, Yunnan is also actively developing other forms of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
On Dec. 23, a major wind power project was connected to power grid at full capacity in Qiubei County.
The project has 172 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 860,000 kilowatts. It is expected to generate two billion kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.66 million tons each year.
In 2022, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture added 1.93 million kilowatts of photovoltaic installed capacity. By mid-December this year, the total electricity power installed capacity in the prefecture reached 17.92 million kilowatts.
