This is the shocking moment a detached truck wheel flew into a roadside restaurant in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the ghost wheel rolling into the eatery and smashing into tables while customers were having breakfast in Suphan Buri province at around 9:21 am on December 25.

The loose tire struck the restaurant counter, scattering food containers and knocking over a pot of scorching soup as the steaming hot liquid spilled next to a shocked worker.

Police arrived at the scene and found the truck parked 100 metres across the restaurant.

The unnamed driver said: 'I was also shocked that my tire flew off while I was driving. I'm relieved no one was hurt by the accident.'

He said he would compensate the store owner for the damaged tables, chairs, equipment, and spilled food.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
