Time ran out for the new Apple Watch after US President Joe Biden refused to issue a last-minute emergency action to keep the best-selling smartwatch on store shelves.

Biden had until December 25 to overturn a ruling by the US International Trade Commission that prevents Apple from selling Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models, among other more recent, because they violate patents registered to another company. But as expected, Biden did not intervene.

Apple had already removed infringing watch models from its online store, and AppleStore stores opened this Tuesday without any of the latest top-of-the-line watches in stock. The cheaper Apple Watch SE, which was not part of the ruling, is still on sale, but the ban affects Apple Watch Series 6 and later, and all Apple Watch Ultra models.
