This is the moment a forest ranger rescued a fallen Malayan flying lemur by placing it back on a tree.

Littikrai Muadkong was out on patrol when he spotted the bat-like creature lying face-down in the dirt at the Namtok Si Khit National Park in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand on December 15.

He gently picked up the creature, which emitted a loud screech as it flailed in his hands, before placing it on the trunk of a coconut tree. The creature was seen nimbly scaling the tall trunk.

The Malayan flying lemur, also known as the Sunda flying lemur or Malayan colugo, is a gliding mammal native to Southeast Asia. It uses the loose flaps of skin called palagium on the sides of its body to glide from tree to tree feeding on fruits, flowers and young leaves.

Though it is a skillful climber, the Malayan flying lemur is nearly helpless when it is on the ground.
