STORYLINE:
Turkish security forces detained 189 suspected members of the Islamic State in an operation codenamed "Heroes-38" across 37 provinces in the country, a cabinet minister said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out "simultaneously" in all the provinces, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Most of the suspects were detained in the capital Ankara. At the same time, 22 people were caught in the country's most populated city Istanbul.
The Turkish government designated the Islamic State a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a spate of deadly attacks in the country since 2015.
