Sand Barriers Are Built To Resist Strom in Ventura County, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 29 December 2023.
As Saturday's storm approaches, Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) firefighters, in collaboration with the City of Ventura and its public works department, are taking proactive measures to safeguard the community. Crews are reinforcing the sand berm and addressing the aftermath of a recent rogue wave incident.
VCFD Hand Crew members are actively engaged with the City's Public Works, clearing driveways as the Public Works Department ensures the roadways are accessible. The focus remains on fortifying the area to mitigate potential storm-related risks.
Notably, coastal areas are under a high surf warning, prompting the closure of all City, State, and County beaches and parks along the coastline. VCFD urges individuals to avoid these areas during the storm for their safety.
Throughout the night, VCFD's heavy equipment operators are diligently working with dozers to strengthen the protective berm in the community of Pierpont, spanning approximately a mile from San Pedro St. to Greenock Lane, standing at about seven feet in height.
Due to the ongoing high surf advisory, various beaches, harbors, and public facilities will remain closed through December 31, 2023. This includes iconic sites such as Ventura Pier, all Ventura Beaches, Port Hueneme Pier, and several state and county parks. Residents are advised to stay informed about local closures and exercise caution during this weather event.
