Traditional New Years Day Hunt at St Columb Major, a country town in Cornwall UK.
The Four Burrows Hunt rendevous outside the Silver Ball public house on New Year's Day. This Hunt is based in Mid cornwall. Hunt followers numbered in the hundreds attended the spectacle. The traditional prey of the hunters being foxes, however, after a change in the law twenty years ago hunting with hounds is now strictly a scent-based chase. A scent trail is laid before the event for the Foxhounds to follow. A traditional stirrup cup drink is seen being consumed by the hunt riders. The two riders with whips are known as Whipper-ins and their job is to control the pack of hounds. The Hunts ride up to 5 times a week during the hunting season.
