This is the shocking moment Indian tourists brawled with Thai locals on a road in Pattaya.

Footage shows the individuals - both men and women - rushing at each other wielding weapons like belts, glass bottles, pipes, and a ladle in front of the beach on December 28.

The chaotic fight held up traffic, but the group ignored oncoming cars and continued attacking each other.

A witness who refused to be identified told local media that the Thai locals were drinking beer on the roadside when an Indian woman approached and allegedly slapped a Thai woman in the group.

The Thai woman fought back and overpowered the Indian backpacker, who then called her friends for help. Both parties were soon caught up in the clash, with no one intervening for fear of being injured.

The cause of the punch-up was not yet clear. The witness said he was concerned it would tarnish Thailand's reputation as a tourist destination.

Local police have not disclosed if reports were filed. They said they plan to inspect the scene, gather evidence, and review surveillance cameras for potential legal action.

Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand. In the ensuing years, the coastal resort spawned into a semi-barbarous sex-tourism hellscape.

Embarrassed officials have made progress in gentrifying the region with family tourism projects but a ravenous nightlife industry and corrupt police have hampered their efforts, with undesirables from all nations still attracted to the seedy city.
