A Thai zoo held mascot parades to mark the New Year.

Zookeepers donned the animal costumes as part of the festivities showcasing the different kinds of wildlife including lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, and parrots at the Chiang Mai Zoo.

The mascots welcomed tourists at the entrance, then proceeded to the zoo's flower garden for a song and dance performance. Children then posed for photos with their favourite animal mascots after the number.

Zoo director Wuttichai Muangman said activities like balloon dart games and animal feeding sessions were prepared as more than 2,000 visitors per day were expected to arrive for the New Year celebrations.

He added that Thai zoos under The Zoological Park Organization of Thailand will offer free admission for children under 12 years old on January 1.
