Pickup truck spins out of control and drags motorcycle rider across road
A pickup truck spun out of control and dragged a motorcycle rider across a road in Thailand.
CCTV footage shows the vehicle with a modified cargo bed swerving along the motorway and clipping the motorist to the edge of the lane in Chachoengsao, Thailand, on July 1.
The rider, identified as Suphaporn Aoncharoen, 42, had wounds on her body and legs. She was given first aid by the rescue team and transported to Buddhasothorn Hospital.
Meanwhile, truck driver Thanayod Bootin, 35, was taken for questioning by the police.
The truck sustained a visible scratch mark on its left rear side while the motorcycle's seat was disconnected from the impact of the collision.
Suphaporn mentioned that she was on her way home when she suddenly heard a loud noise and was crashed into by a truck. Thanayod explained that his truck suddenly lost balance while he was en route to transport goods.
He mentioned that he frequently drives on that road and but never experienced an accident when the road is dry, but he was unaware of the increased danger during rainy conditions.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
