STORYLINE:

During the past three-day New Year holiday, China has witnessed strong consumption performances in multiple sectors including transport, tourism, catering, and retail sales.

According to the Ministry of Transport, passenger volume handled by China's transport network during the New Year holiday is projected to hit over 128 million trips, up 78.4 percent from a year ago.

Statistics show that a total of 135 million domestic trips were made within China during the New Year holiday, up 155.3 percent over the same period last year and up 9.4 percent over the figure from 2019.

During the period, the total revenue in China's tourist market surpassed 79.73 billion yuan (about 11.27 billion U.S. dollars), tripling the figure for the holiday season last year and increasing by 5.6 percent year on year from 2019.

Ice and snow tourism has gained more popularity this winter, especially during the New Year holiday.

In a resort in east China's Shandong Province, a variety of ice-and-snow entertainment activities have been introduced to attract tourists.

China saw nearly 5.18 million inbound and outbound trips during the three-day New Year holiday, 4.7 times more than the figure for the same period last year and returning to the level in 2019.
