On November 20, 2023, in Linyi, Shandong, a 5-year-old boy exploring the outdoors stumbled upon a collection of peculiar-looking stones.

With boundless curiosity, the boy bent down and carefully examined these stones.

One particularly rough-surfaced rock caught his attention, and as he gently brushed away the dust, he noticed peculiar patterns on its surface. To his astonishment, he had unearthed a massive fossil of trilobites.

The boy’s father, Mr. Yang, an outdoor enthusiast, usually talks about fossils at home. Yang hopes to give his son more opportunities to get close to nature so he brings the boy to go hiking since he was three.

According to local reports, Prof. Guo Ying from Linyi University identifies that these stones belong to fossils and that the layers are more than 500 million years old.
