A farmer cut open his watermelon and calabash hybrid crop.

Footage shows the local using a small sickle to slice the combination of fruit and vegetable produce in Hubei, China on July 12.

It cracked open and revealed a white and pink pulp inside while its outside appearance turned out to be a bizarre watermelon top with stripes and with calabash bottom.

Farmer Deng Jiakang said: 'The melon smelled strongly sweet before I opened it. But it turned out that the pulp wasn't red enough.'
