This is the moment a terrified leopard tried to escape as a man recorded it through a glass door before the big cat was seen dashing up a staircase and disappearing.

Two separate video clips show the leopard running down the street before entering a residential building in Narsinghpur village in Gurugram, India, on January 3.

The big cat, looking for a way out of the concrete jungle, climbed up a flight of stairs, and, in the second video, it was seen back at the bottom of the stairs.

When it spotted the man through the glass door, the leopard suddenly darted at the filmer and crashed against the door, causing the person to step back before the big cat, then ran back up the stairs again and once again vanished.

Local forestry officials confirmed the sighting and said they had dispatched a team to the area to try and catch the leopard so it could be returned to its natural environment if it was found to be in good health.

Incidents of big cats clashing with human beings are increasingly common of late as they suffer threats to their habitat, forcing them into built-up areas.

Panicked locals are warned to stay indoors until the rescue of the leopard had been carried out - instead of attacking the endangered big cats.
