In a dramatic sequence of events on December 20, 2023, at around 12:15 PM, Atlanta Police swiftly responded to reports of gunfire at 3843 Jonesboro Rd. SE. Witnesses detailed a troubling incident involving a male in a gray Jeep Cherokee firing shots towards a building before making a hasty escape. Fortunately, despite several victims in the vicinity, only property damage was reported.

During the subsequent crime scene processing, the suspect brazenly returned to the scene. ACE Units, in close pursuit, attempted a traffic stop at 3907 Jonesboro Rd. The suspect, identified as William Burris (born 1984), with a staggering 37 previous arrest cycles, refused to comply. After releasing a passenger, Burris led police on a high-speed chase that concluded near 2000 Lakewood Ave. The suspect executed a risky move, colliding with a patrol vehicle in what appeared to be a self-inflicted PIT maneuver.

Upon apprehension, officers discovered three young children in the vehicle. The children, treated for complaints of pain, were swiftly moved to safety. Burris now faces a litany of charges, including multiple counts of kidnapping, cruelty to children, possession of firearms, drug-related offenses, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
