Children injured when playground train overturns into pond in China
Children who were on a fun ride at an amusement park were injured and terrified when the playground train derailed and plunged into a small pond in China.
The incident unfolded at a newly-opened theme park in Shangqiu, a city in Minquan County, Henan Province, on January 1.
Phone footage shows the small pink train partially overturned in the water, while the rear carriages remained on the track, after it suddenly went off the rails with several children onboard.
Horrified parents rushed to the scene and could be seen consoling the crying youngsters.
One little girl in a pink winter jacket appeared to be bleeding from her head. It is unclear how many children were harmed during the incident, but there were no serious injuries reported.
The driver reportedly fell into the water with the train engine and was later rescued.
The Minquan County Network Information Office told local media: 'The train engine of an amusement park derailed.
'There was a slight shake when turning, similar to a car turning, and the train engine slid off the rails, but no casualties were reported.'
They stated that they are currently analysing and assessing the situation and will provide a detailed response after understanding the specific details. The amusement park has so far not commented on the incident.
