Prisoner denied parole attacks courtroom judge in Nevada
This is the dramatic moment a prisoner denied parole attacked a courtroom judge in Nevada.
Deobra Redden, 30, appeared at the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Las Vegas on January 3 after pleading guilty to attempted battery with substantial bodily harm.
Judge Mary Kay Holthus, 62, denied his probation saying she thought 'it was time you get a taste of something else'. But before she could read his sentence, Deobra leapt from his seat and pounced on her in a shocking attack caught on camera.
Dramatic footage shows Deobra screaming 'No, f*** that bitch' before flying over the bench, grabbing the judge and dragging her to the floor as a flag behind toppled over.
Court marshals were seen pulling the violent defendant away and repeatedly pummeling him.
Authorities said Judge Mary Kay suffered minor injuries, while a marshal had a cut on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder. He was hospitalised and is in a stable condition.
Deobra was due back in court on January 4 to face new charges, including battery on a protected person.
In a statement, the Eighth Judicial District Court said: 'We commend the heroic acts of her staff, law enforcement, and all others who subdued the defendant.
'The court remains committed to a safe and secure courthouse and courtrooms. We are reviewing all our protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and our employees.'
The New York Times citing the Nevada Department of Corrections reported that Deobra was previously jailed for attempted theft in 2015, and domestic battery in 2021.
