This is the heart-stopping moment a car spun out of control on a wet road in Thailand.

Driver Nattakit Chuaythan had been travelling along the highway when he lost control of his vehicle in Chumphon province on July 1.

He managed to hit the brakes on time, and parked on the roadside. However, a speeding pick-up truck trailing behind them flipped over and crashed into an electric pole.

Nattakit and his passenger called the police to respond to the scene.

He said: 'We lost control because the road was so slippery. It was raining at the time.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
