Traffic lights topple onto motorcycle rider at junction in Thailand
This is the shocking moment traffic lights toppled onto a motorcycle at a junction in Thailand.
CCTV footage shows the traffic lights swaying as strong winds blew, before slamming onto a motorcycle rider and his passenger waiting at the intersection in Chonburi province on December 22.
The Honda Click motorcycle was smashed, while two people were injured from the impact.
Narongchai Khunpluem, mayor of the Saensuk Municipality where the accident happened, said the two wounded were compensated for medical expenses and repairs.
Authorities have repaired the traffic light, which is seen on video at the same spot, still wobbling precariously from a slight breeze.
Resident Sompong Maneetham, 50, said: 'I was there and saw the pole fall on the motorcycle. Two people were injured.
'After that, I rushed over to help them and clean the mess. Officials have come to inspect and repair the pole, but it's still shaky and dangerous. I'd like it to be replaced with something sturdier.'
Police Lance Corporal Chatcharin Phanthurat, a Saensuk Police traffic officer who responded to the scene, said: 'Officials came to rush to fix the fallen pole, but from what I saw, it was still not stable.
'When the wind blows, it wobbles. I fear that the same thing will happen again. I want the relevant agencies to rush in to inspect and fix it by installing a sturdier traffic light that will not fall over from just the wind.'
