An elderly care canteen in Hohhot, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, provides varied and delicious dishes for the local elderly's convenience.

"Very good. The food is delicious, and the staff here are very responsible. They take care of us well. The food here is reasonably priced and we elderly people can have a discount, so I often come here to have meals."

We have eight hot dishes every day, with various kinds of staple food, including coarse grains and fine grains. All the dishes are low in salt, oil and fat and cooked soft, which is more suitable for the elderly. We have our menu arranged with the help of nutritionists. For some elderly people with mobility difficulties, especially in winter, it's more difficult for the elderly to go out, we can deliver their meals to the door. The delivery service is particularly popular with the elderly."
Since 2020, the region has invested a total of 450 million yuan (about 63.3 million U.S. dollars) in promoting the construction of home-based community elderly care service facilities, including restaurants for the elderly.
At present, there are 734 such elderly care canteens in urban communities and 420 meal service facilities for the elderly in rural and pastoral areas.
