STORYLINE:

Attieke is a traditional and essential dish in Cote d'Ivoire. Originating from the southern part of the country, the dish is made from cassava, a widely grown crop in Africa.

SOUNDBITE 1 (French): CECILE ZALOU, Specialist and trader of Attieke
"The cassava you see has been peeled by us and will be fermented the next day.
We peel them at the mill and clean them with special oil.
The next day, the cassava will ferment. We put them in the machine and the water comes out. You can see that after the water comes out, the cassava dries out.
Now the women are pounding the cassava. They would beat the cassava hard to squeeze out the water completely.
When the cassava is completely dried, we will sieve the cassava flour in the wind. Small particles will fall off, and large particles will stay in the sieve."

The dish is flavorful when eaten with a variety of food combinations.

SOUNDBITE 2 (French): ABOUBAKAR SAWADOGO, Attieke trader
"I'm chopping onions to stew with the chicken. After stewing, we can eat it with Attieke."

SOUNDBITE 3 (French): CHANTAL TOURE, Attieke trader
"I sell grilled fish, chicken, French fries, and potatoes to customers to eat with Attieke."

SOUNDBITE 4 (French): CECILE ZALOU, Specialist and trader of Attieke
"Attieke goes with everything. It can be eaten with fish or various sauces.
We have our local sauce in Ebrie that we use to eat with Attieke. And our young people here also have their own unique way of eating."
