Climate change: Scottish ski resort claims lack of snow is “taking the pi**"

Footage of Glencoe Mountain Resort in Scotland today (January 6) where a lack of snow has made skiing impossible. In a Facebook post, the resort stated: “Weather is really taking the pi** at the moment. Not quite enough snow to open for skiing and now a forecast for dry, cold and sunny weather for the next week. All we can currently offer are beginner ski and snowboard lessons on the man-made snow.” At Glencoe, artificial snow is pumped onto the mountain to enable sledging to take place.

Recent research has indicated climate change could devastate European skiing, with more than half of Europe’s resorts at ‘high risk’ of snow-scarcity by 2100. According to research published in Nature Climate Change, “53 per cent of European resorts are likely to suffer from poor snow cover if temperatures rise by 2°Celsius.”
