Arizona only gets snow a handful of times a year, and it’s even more rare to have it at lower elevations. On January 7, 2024, I took a drive up AZ State Route 87, a major state highway that connects Phoenix to the Mogollon Rim. While I was driving up the highway, I noticed the snow levels much lower than normal, around 3000 feet. This led some of the Saguaro Cacti (which are found up to 3500 feet in elevation) to be plastered with snow, a rather rare sight. The amount of snow combined with high winds also shut down the freeway, making me one of the only people to capture this sight.
