A man has left the internet disgusted after sharing a warning tale of how he got scabies from sleeping over at a date’s house after a night out – before getting unceremoniously ghosted.

As doctors report a “nightmare” surge in scabies in the UK, according to a report by The Guardian, one brave soul is taking to TikTok to reveal his experience.

And it’s quite the story.

In a video that has over 1.3m views, Ethan Ball, a single man from Cork, Ireland, shares how he contracted the condition that left him with “bumps” of “eggs” under his skin.

Two months after a wild night out with a date, the 21-year-old noticed strange symptoms.

“I didn’t have any sort of sexual contact with this person apart from kissing, I just slept in the same bed with them,” Ethan told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“I was at first, really, really, really angry [at contracting scabies] because I was like how could I have been so silly?”

Ethan later spoke to his date through Tinder and was “annoyed” to find out they knew they’d had scabies but hadn’t told him – though it’s not clear if they knew at the time of the sleepover.

But he decided to give the person a second chance… only to be ghosted.

He said: “I said okay, I’ll give them a second chance.

“But, I was kind of annoyed because I think they kind of knew that they might’ve had it and regardless, met up with me, so I thought that was a bit like not cool.

“And then that ended up ghosting me, so I got f**ked over twice.”

Meanwhile, Ethan was left dealing with the scabies.

He said: “There were little bumps which were the eggs and then trails, which were the mites moving under my skin, which is so disgusting.

“But, I primarily only had it on my hands and feet, and I experienced the small bit in my belly button.

“The day after finding out [that I had scabies], I went to the pharmacy and got a prescription to treat me and that lasted me one treatment and then I was meant to do another one the week after.

“So I went to my pharmacy back home and they said they had been sold out of everything [and I was forced to drive elsewhere].

“My mother wouldn’t let me come home from college [until it was treated], which was fair, but it felt like Covid all over again.

“I was quite grateful that I caught it as soon as I did, as I’ve heard quite a few other horror stories of people getting scabies and getting it way worse in much more undesirable places on their body.”

Hoping to raise awareness of scabies and lift the stigma around the skin condition, Ethan uploaded a TikTok detailing his shocking experience.

He said: “It just spreads really easy and people are like meeting up with each other on nights out and stuff like that.

“Don’t be ashamed if you get it.”

In the video shared to TikTok, (@ethanballr), Ethan can be seen singing along to a song before saying: “He gave me the…

“Scabies.”

The post has so far gained over 111k likes, as well as 600 comments from social media users.
