Peru says it leads the list of countries with greater bird diversity, surpassing its neighbors Colombia and Brazil, after identifying 19 new species in the Amazon rainforest and totaling 1,879 species, the government reported.

"We have managed to position ourselves as the country with the greatest diversity of birds in the world with 1,879 species, (which) positions us on countries such as Colombia and Brazil," said Jose Carlos Nieto, head of the Prot National Natural Areas Service.
