STORYLINE:

China has taken solid steps to advance the green shift in its economic and social development and achieved tangible results.

By October 2023, the installed renewable energy capacity in China had topped 1.4 billion kilowatts, accounting for almost half of the country's total installed power generation capacity.

The country is also a global leader in the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, with NEV sales ranking first globally for the past eight consecutive years.

China's development in the sector has opened up new growth space for businesses from other countries.

SOUNDBITE 1 (German): HELMUT STETTNER, CEO, Audi FAW NEV Co., Ltd.
"China is growing rapidly in the field of new energy vehicles with huge potential. Therefore, we also expect that from 2026, the number of new energy vehicles in the luxury segment will exceed the number of traditional fuel vehicles. Embracing new opportunities, we quickly developed a strategic approach and implemented a clear electrification strategy in China."

Electric vehicles, solar batteries, and lithium-ion batteries have become the new "three major ones" underpinning China's exports.

The export success not only propels the country's trade but also invigorates global green development initiatives.

In the city of Pazardzhik in southern Bulgaria stands a solar power park. All the solar modules used in this park are from Chinese suppliers.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): VESELIN ZAHARIEV, Chief financial officer of Solar Green Energy
"At the beginning of 2021, we started building our new parks, using the new technology. We wanted the best quality. There were not so many producers. We did some research and we contacted all producers. (China's) Huasun was one of the top 3 in terms of quality. We partnered very well and (over) 2 years now forward we still continue working very, very big. China is where it's leading the whole change."

Data show that China provides as much as 80 percent of global photovoltaic equipment and 50 percent of the world's wind power equipment.

Khurushkul, once a small village in Bangladesh, now boasts the country's first wind power plant built by a Chinese company.

The large-scale centralized wind power plant has facilitated the South Asian country's energy transition and green development.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): YIN BOBO, Director of the Cox's Bazar Wind Power Plant
"The project will provide Bangladesh with more than 145 million kWh of clean electricity per year, which can ease its severe power shortage. Meanwhile, it can reduce coal consumption by 44,600 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 109,200 tons, meeting the electricity demand of 100,000 households."
