STORYLINE:
Hungarian legendary gymnast Agnes Keleti celebrated her 103rd birthday in Budapest on Tuesday.
This remarkable milestone not only marks her longevity but solidifies her status as the world's oldest living Olympic champion.
Her athletic prowess led her to win five Olympic gold medals - a testament to her skill and dedication.
She first captured gold in Helsinki in 1952 and followed with an astounding four golds in Melbourne in 1956. This incredible feat made her the most successful Hungarian female Olympian in history and firmly established her as a national treasure.
However, Keleti's story extends beyond her Olympic glory. Surviving the horrors of World War II, she exemplified resilience and strength, attributes that have defined her both in and out of the sports arena.
Keleti was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1981, the Hungarian Sports Hall of Fame in 1991, the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 2001, and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2002.
SOUNDBITE (Hungarian): ADAM SCHMIDT, Hungary's State Secretary for Sports
"And now I have the luck to have a small talk with her, and she is in perfect physical and mental health. She told me how much she loved gymnastics, how much devoted she was to this field of sports. She is not only a treasure but a real role model for all the sports-loving youth. She has such a life that her journey can serve as an example and an inspiration not only for the young athletes or fans but for everyone else who has to face struggles."
