Aviation inspectors checked an Alaska Airlines jet that had its fuselage rip open mid-air.

Footage shows authorities examining the aircraft parked at the Portland International Airport in Oregon on January 7.

The Boeing 737-9 MAX on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 was forced to make an emergency landing at the airport when part of its midsection blew open on January 5.

Alaska Airlines said technicians had found 'loose hardware' scattered in the damaged area during the checks.

Dozens of Max 9 planes from Alaska Airlines and United Airlines have been grounded following the incident, which has raised concerns about the model's safety.

Meanwhile, Boeing said in a statement: 'We are committed to ensuring every Boeing airplane meets design specifications and the highest safety and quality standards.

'We regret the impact this has had on our customers and their passengers.'

Boeing was slammed over its poor safety standards in the 2022 Netflix documentary Downfall: The Case Against Boeing.

The company's share price has plunged since the incident with Alaska Airlines.
