Rain accompanied by tornadoes damages dozens of houses in Indonesia
Rain accompanied by tornadoes damaged dozens of houses in Indonesia on Tuesday.
The twisters touched down in Sedadi Village, bringing heavy rains as they ripped through homes in Grobogan Regency in Central Java on January 9.
Footage shows the tornadoes snaking down from storm clouds as a downpour pummeled the residential area.
Listyowati, head of Sedadi Village, said there were no casualties reported. He said: 'The initial information to date is that there are no fatalities. However, dozens of houses were damaged due to this natural phenomenon.'
Emergency services helped clear away debris from damaged houses and fallen trees toppled over by strong winds.
Endang Sulistyoningsih, head of the Grobogan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, said: 'The information on the extent of the damage is still being collected. We are still focused on post-disaster handling.'

A tornado is a violent rotating column of air that connects the earth and a storm cloud. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the rise of warm, humid air and the fall of cooler air inside a thunderstorm create spinning currents that condense into a visible whirling funnel.
Tornadoes spawned from supercell thunderstorms are the most common, and often the most damaging.
