A total of 453 parades of blocos, as the street comparsas are known with free orchestras, will animate the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, the most important carnival festival in Brazil and this year runs from Friday 9 to Tuesday 13 February.

The number of block parades authorized for this year’s carnival is practically equal to 2023 (456) and the forecast is that it will attract about 5 million people, according to data released on Tuesday by the Mayor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro.

But the parades will not be limited to the five days of the Maslenitsa festivities, since the first comparsas will take to the streets on Saturday, January 13, almost a month before the carnival, and the last ones will close the curtain on February 18, the following Sunday.
