RYPTSJERK - Hundreds of people are skating in the Netherlands today. On the Ryptsjerksterpolder, in the north of the Netherlands, people are coming and going.

Since yesterday, skating has been taking place on natural ice in the first places in the country. Today seems to be the last day that it remains below freezing during the day. From tomorrow the thaw will set in and the ice will disappear. It looks like it will freeze next night, so skating will probably be possible tomorrow.

There are plenty of warnings not to go on the ice. The water level is still very high in the country, because the pumping stations pump out the water, air comes under the ice. This can quickly break the ice with all its consequences. Nevertheless, not everyone seems to be listening to the warnings.
