STORYLINE:

Turkish police on Wednesday rounded up 38 suspects across Türkiye over their alleged links to a network accused of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.

The Turkish police conducted raids across 12 provinces in the simultaneous operations dubbed "Pinch-3," the minister said in a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

The suspects were allegedly linked to the Gulen movement, which the Turkish government accused of attempting the coup on July 15, 2016.

The Gulen movement is allegedly led by and named after Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen, who his followers regard as a spiritual leader. Ankara accused U.S.-based Fethullah Gulen of masterminding the attempted coup, in which at least 250 people were killed.

The Turkish government has launched a massive crackdown on suspects with links to the network in the aftermath of the coup attempt.
