A cow has been shot dead by police officers after it charged through a busy camping area and injured a child.

Dramatic footage shows the rampant animal running wildly between tents near Shilijiang Bay in Fujian, China, causing chaos among the crowd with people screaming and fleeing on all sides.

The filmer said the camping area was packed with families and young children playing at the time of the incident.

They said: 'There was a child hit and sent flying by the cow.'

According to local media, the cow was later shot dead by police officers.

Personnel from the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau's Shangjie (High-tech Zone) Sub-bureau said that the incident has since been fully resolved without providing any further details.

It is unclear where the cow came from and if its owner has been found.
