STORYLINE:
Turkish police detained 70 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group in raids across Türkiye, the country's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Thursday.
The operations dubbed "Heroes-40" started on Tuesday and finalized on Thursday, Yerlikaya said in a post on social media platform X.
The Turkish minister said the police seized large amounts of money, digital material, and receipts for hawala banking transactions in the raids.
Hawala is an informal transfer system based on personal relationships and is traditionally popular in Arab countries and the Indian subcontinent.
Recently, Turkish security forces detained 189 suspected IS members in an operation codenamed "Heroes-38" across 37 provinces.
The Turkish government designated the IS a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a spate of deadly attacks in the country since 2015.
Türkiye's southern border with Syria has been a major crossing point for Syrians and foreign fighters since civil war broke out in the country in 2011.
