A tourist got his tongue stuck on an iron pole after licking it in northern China.

The bizarre CCTV footage was filmed in the city of Shenyang in Liaoning Province on January 8.

A man decided to step off the train during a stop at Shenyang station to lick the iron pole of a streetlamp and experience the northeastern tradition of tongue freezing.

However, things quickly took a sticky turn as the man found himself firmly stuck to the cold metal. Alert railway personnel spotted the peculiar situation and promptly assisted. Armed with a bottle of warm water, they successfully helped the man free his tongue from the icy grip of the pole.

Railway officials revealed that the tourist, who was on a Northeastern adventure, had seen videos of people getting their tongues stuck to metal poles in the region due to freezing temperatures. Seizing the opportunity during the train stop, the curious traveller attempted the stunt, only to find himself in an unexpectedly precarious situation.

Thanks to the quick response of railway staff and the application of warm water, the man emerged unscathed from the sticky situation. The incident did not cause any disruptions to the train's schedule.
