Terrified fishermen quickly fled to safety as the ice they were standing on began to crack during an operation in Gorky Reservoir near Nizhny Novgorod.

The footage from January 3 shows the workers desperately sprinting to safer ground as the icy surface started to break.

The incident, suspected to be linked to a change in water discharge from the hydroelectric power station, led to a swift evacuation of the fishermen.

One man found himself immersed in the frigid waters but was fortunate to be rescued by quick-acting eyewitnesses. Another individual fell through the ice near the shore, but thankfully, no medical assistance was required as all participants managed to reach safety.
