A stunt driver was injured when he plunged to the ground while performing the 'wall of death' motorcycle trick at a fair in Thailand.

Footage shows the rider, Tae, riding almost parallel to the ground as his motorbike roared along the wooden walls of a large, drum-shaped pit during the Chiang Mai Red Cross and Winter Fair on January 11.

However, the two-wheeler's handlebars were reportedly snagged on a loose rope, causing him to lose control and crash to the bottom of the pit in front of shocked spectators.

Tae, who was not wearing a helmet during the stunt, was knocked unconscious with a head injury. He was rushed to a hospital and was today in a stable condition recovering from the brush with death.

Meanwhile, Tae's relatives denied he had been negligent, claiming the accident was instead caused by an oil slick left on the walls of the stunt area.

They said Tae only had minor injuries, and they were monitoring when he would be ready to return to the show.

The fair organiser said they would cover the costs of Tae's hospital treatment but denied the accident was their responsibility.

The 'Wall of Death' motorcycle trick involves riders performing stunts within a cylindrical structure, typically a wooden or metal barrel-shaped arena.

The riders use centrifugal force to stick to the vertical walls of the structure, defying gravity as they accelerate in a circular pattern.
