Kite-fliers in Cape Town showed their support for Palestine by raising flags in the sky for International Kite Day yesterday (January 14th)

Palestinian flag colours were flying high in the sky above the popular Surfers Corner in Muizenberg as the African Artists against Apartheid joined the International Kite Day with their contribution to Global Kite flight in Solidarity with Gaza.

Young and old joined in as home made and commercially sold kites took to the sky. Beachgoers also joined in by displaying Palestinian flags on the sand and kids and adults had their faces painted.

Cape Town activists have been under pressure by the local municipal police who are controlled by the Democratic Alliance. In the last week the DA run municipal police removed paintings of the Palestinian flag claiming its in contravention of a by law which was passed recently.

Activists have spoken out against the actions and have encouraged otherrs to increase activism and awareness as Aparana Ramani , one of the local organisers of todays event explains.
