A crazed monitor lizard tried to attack a sleeping mother and her baby in a home.

CCTV footage shows the 5ft-long reptile rampaging into the living room, waking the parent who quickly picked up the infant to escape in Nonthaburi, Thailand, on January 5.

The animal followed the woman with the youngster into the kitchen, searching for a way out of the property.

A little girl who heard the commotion from outside checked what was happening and became trapped inside the home with the animal as well.

She was left crying in the living room and ran outside of the house, calling her grandmother for help.

When they checked, the reptile was already gone and fled to the back door. No one was hurt and the monitor lizard was safe as well.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
